Blocked Drains
A sink slow with fat, a shower packed with hair, a tub that will not empty: the everyday blockages, cleared on the first visit. Open blocked drains for the causes and fixes.
Eatons Hill Plumber clears blocked drains, sewers and stormwater lines across Eatons Hill, from the hill estates above Cashs Crossing out to the acreage blocks along Church Road. Drainage is its own corner of the trade: waste pipes, stormwater lines and the inspections that show what sits underground.
If we're late, $100 comes off your bill

Most drainage calls land somewhere on this list, and the right page depends on which pipe is involved. Sort the job before you ring and the visit goes faster.
Not sure which one you are facing? Describe it over the phone and we will point you to the right page straight away.

The first streets here date from the early seventies, built on the hill above Cashs Crossing, and pipework from that period is showing its age. Unitywater's network maps show the sewers serving that original estate running in asbestos-cement and clay rather than the PVC-U laid through most of the suburb.
Clay-era pipe carries softer, older joints than modern plastic, and joints are where roots get in. A drain fault on those streets is often a root problem first.
The old mains serve Olympus Court, Minerva Court and Pegasus Avenue, so house drains in those streets connect into pipework laid half a century back.
We clear aged lines gently, because heavy rods can crack old pipe, and we say so before starting rather than after.
Each child of this page covers one kind of blocked line in full: what it is, what causes it on this side of the hill, and the usual fix.

A sink slow with fat, a shower packed with hair, a tub that will not empty: the everyday blockages, cleared on the first visit. Open blocked drains for the causes and fixes.

Waste water rising through a floor drain or the bowl means the sewer line, and it is a health risk. On the sewered estates that line ends at Unitywater's main. Open blocked sewer.

Roof and yard water travel their own pipes, and out west the slopes push that water hard: fast falls, gully drains below, and debris swept straight into the inlet. Open blocked stormwater.

A camera run down the line turns a repeat blockage into a known one: the spot, the cause, the condition of the pipe. Open CCTV drain inspections for when it is worth it.
$0 call-out fees, available 24/7, and same-day where we can.
A drain call starts simple and only turns technical when the simple answers run out. This is the order we work in.
Two local factors shape diagnosis more than most.
Rock and alluvial ground. The soil here runs to rock and alluvium, so pipe depths shift from one lot to the next. A fault a metre down at one house can sit half that at the next, which changes where we dig and how deep we go.
Gum country between the estates. Koala habitat is mapped in the bushland threading between the estates, and eucalypt roots reach drain joints and trench lines wherever a lot touches that country. Clearing roots there buys time rather than a cure, and we say which one you are paying for.

Which fixtures are slow, since when, and whether it is one drain or the whole house: that alone sorts most calls into a fixture fault or a line fault.

A rod or a water test moves a simple blockage and tells us whether the line holds up once it is running again.

On the clay-era streets near Minerva Court, or where roots keep returning, an inspection shows the cause instead of leaving us guessing.

A drain that blocks twice in a season has a reason, and finding it costs less than a third clear-out.

The yearly average here runs to 1,069 mm, and a big share of it arrives with the storm-heavy wet season. On the eastern hill that is a roof and gutter problem; out west it is a drainage one.
The western slopes are flagged as landslide hazard ground in council's planning maps, so run-off from roofs and driveways builds speed going downhill and reaches the gully drains below faster than they can empty.
Council's flood mapping tracks the South Pine River and its branching creeks past the southern streets, Rivergum Drive and Confluence Court among them, so yard drains there can be swamped from below in a rise. The river has history here too: a bridge already stood at Cashs Crossing, the old South Pine Bridge, when the February 1893 flood came through, and after the 2022 floods the Reconstruction Authority's audits found just one home in the suburb, undamaged.
A choked stormwater line on a slope is urgent in a way a slow laundry tub is not, because the water has somewhere to go and it will find it. Say where your place sits when you book, because low river ground and a choked inlet partway down a fall are different jobs on the van.

Only the more closely settled estates up on the eastern hill fall within Unitywater's sewer network, leaving the rural-residential properties through the middle and western parts to process wastewater themselves on site. That changes what drainage means out there.
Kumbartcho Sanctuary sits beside a bend of that same river, a reminder that the bush and the water both run close to the back fences here. Drains on the acreage country near it work harder than the ones up on the hill.

Drain work rewards a crew that knows the ground, and between the old mains, the sloping blocks and the flats near the river this suburb gives a crew plenty to know.
Big rural-residential blocks carry long runs of pipe between the house and the trenches, and the koala bushland mapped between the estates sends gum roots into every joint where a garden meets the trees.
They do, because that first hill estate drains into asbestos-cement and clay sewer mains instead of the PVC-U common elsewhere, so we clear those old lines gently and look before we cut.
The main under the street belongs to Unitywater, and everything past the connection point belongs to you, so we clear your side and say straight out when the fault sits in theirs.
We keep your pipes flowing; the river and its flood mapping are Council's to manage, so our work is clearing yard drains and connections on streets like Rivergum Drive, not fighting the river.
Not usually, since a rod and a water test settle most simple jobs, and the camera proves worthwhile when a blockage keeps coming back or the cause stays murky after the first clear-out.
